As a painter, I am fascinated by psychological, cultural and mythical content, all of which figure prominently in my abstract creations. I am inspired by the work of the New York School Abstract Expressionists of the 1950's, especially the Color Field painter, Helen Frankenthaler. The personal and sensual experience that this pivotal group brought to their paintings is something I strive to achieve in my own work.

In terms of my process, I begin each painting by establishing a heavily-textured ground and then building-up layers of luminous color using a variety of non-traditional tools. After sufficient layers have been applied, the deconstruction process begins. Like an archaeologist excavating remnants of history, I dig into the painting to bring the under-layers to the surface. In the resulting works, the viewer sees hints and traces of the subterranean world veiled in external mystery.
